| Poonch witnesses minor violence as Bandh call is observed | | | Aijaz Qazmi Poonch, May 22--Poonch city today witnessed a complete bandh which was marred by sporadic acts of violence and one person also lost his life as he could get not timely medical attention. Sikh community in the city and most of the North India had called for a Bandh to protest against the alleged sacrilege committed by the head of Dera Sacha Sauda, a religious sect in punjab. Protest began in the early morning and majority of shops and educational institutions remained closed. Most of the transport service remained off the road and streets wore a deserted look. In an unfortunate incident, one person namely Mohd Shafi son of Raj Mohd, resident of Kalali died in the way as he could not be taken the hospital in time to get medical attention. Family members of the deceased said that had the protestors allowed their vehicle to reach the hospital, he could have been saved. Shafi suffered a heart attack in his home at Kalali around 10.30 am but could not reach the hospital owing to the bandh, family members alleged. In another incident, the local governmnt school witnessed minor violence, when 30 to 40 youth entered the premises and started breaking the furniture of the school. Principal of the School, Kulwant Singh said that there was no need to indulge in violence as the the school had been closed in view of the bandh. Similarly, protestors broke into the office of Jammu and Kashmir Board of secondary education and threw around the records. The Sikh community is demanding an apology from the leader of this sect, who appeared in an advert dressed like one of the Sikh religion's most important figures. Sikh community leaders say it is an insult to their religion.
