| BJP describes UPA rule as failure | | |
NEW DELHI, MAY 22
Main opposition BJP today called the UPA government's performace as a failure saying prices of essential commodities have gone through the roof and accusing it of compromising national security.
Issuing a 66-page chargesheet "UPA's Three Years, Aam Adami's (common man's) Tear Years", party president Rajnath Singh alleged the UPA rule was "faceless, directionless and spineless" and led by a Prime Minister who has no say in his cabinet.
Listing "non-achievements and failures" of UPA during its three year rule, the BJP also targeted Congress president Sonia Gandhi describing her 'renunciation' as a "drama" and had a dig at her saying price rise does not come down by writing letters.
"Aam aadmi(the common man) has been hardest hit during its regime with prices of of essential commodities shooting through the roof," Singh told reporters.
"Rising prices of all essential commodities like wheat, rice, pulses, oil, vegetables, petrol, diesel, cement has adversely affected the living standards of the masses," the BJP chargesheet said adding the UPA converted Indian economy "from a state of surpluses to a state of scarcity."
Housing loan rates, which had come down to 6 per cent during NDA regime have doubled to 12 per cent resulting in slow down in housing industry, it said.
"Price of petrol and diesel have been hiked six times in their three-year rule, highest by any count," Singh said.
Accusing UPA with compromising national security, the chargesheet said, "Abandonment of POTA without any substitute stringent anti-terror law has emboldened terrorist organisations resulting in increase in terrorist attacks."
"The list is unending... Ayodhya, Bangalore, Kashi, Delhi, Mumbai, Malegaon, Samjhouta Express, Jammu and now it is Hyderabad," it said.
Singh said UPA's political manoeuvres like resolution in Kerala Assembly asking relief for Coimbatore blast kingpin Abdul Nasir Madani, putting on hold hanging of Afzal Guru, have emboldened terrorists and demoralised security forces.
"The Prime Minister has said there will be zero tolerance on security forces in the matters of human right violations. We would like to know what would be their tolerance level for the terrorists," Singh said.
Turning to Kashmir, Singh reminded UPA that its own former Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee had admitted that there were 59 terror training camps in Pakistan.
He said UPA failed to build upon the promise of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf given to Atal Bihari Vajpayee that the Pakistani land will not be allowed to be used for terrorist activity and have these camps dismantled.
The UPA also turned a Nelson's Eye towards the protest march by pro-Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba(Let) activists carrying Pakistan flags and raising anti-India slogans in Kashmir recently, Singh said.
