According to press release a deputation of Auqaf Tenants Union, led by its chairman, Krishan Lal Gupta, and President Davinder Gupta personally called on Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma at Jammu, to convey their thanks to him. The other members of the deputation included Suraj Ram Sharma, General Secretary, Babu Ram, Sushil Gupta, Darshan Kumar and Karam Chand. Union leaders also thanked the Chief Minister for appreciating their view point that the implementation of the amendment of Auqaf Act adopted by the NC government in 2001, declaring non Muslims as non beneficiaries of the Auqaf property and its enforcement by the Auqaf administration in forcibly ejecting the non Muslims occupants of Auqaf property for decades together, has the potential to create communal divide and disturb perfect communal harmony and amity in Jammu region. The deputation was told by Sharma that the Chief Minister has asked the Minister for Haj and Auqaf to keep in abeyance the enforcement of 2001 amendment of the Act and maintain status quo a per Auqaf Act of 1978 with regard to the Auqaf property. CM directed the Revenue Secretary that all the tenants should be charged rent at old rates and there should be no move to eject any plea. With non Muslims occupants, till the cabinet reviews the implications of the amendment and takes further decision in the matter.
