5/22/2007 11:49:53 PM

Jammu,May 22
If recent field reports are any indication militants operating in Jamu And Kashmir have started feeling the heat triggering increase in the rate of ex-filtration as compared to infiltration.
A recent report of the state government has also confirmed the trend
indicating that foreign mercenaries had become wary of
their long stay and wanted to return to Pakistan and
occupied Kashmir.
Official reports said that during the first five
months of the current year not more then 17
infiltrators sneaked into the Jammu sector from
across
the border against 37 foreign mercenaries who had
exfiltrated during the same period.
The official report said that the rate of ingress
from across the border had shown marked decline since
2001.During 2001 about 1600 infiltrators had sneaked
into Jammu and Kashmir which went on declining to
about 800 in 2002,670 in 2003,390 in 2004,23 in 2006
and 37 during the last five months.
According to the official document the rate of
killing of civilians, security forces and militants too
had come down during the last four years indicating
that the level of violence had dropped to a
considerable extent. While in 2004 384 militants were
killed the figure of their elimination was 297 in
2005,200 in 2006 and 43 during the last five
months. Civilian killings too dropped from 301 in 2003
to 28 in 2006.During the last five months 17 civilians
were killed. Similarly during the last five months 7
police and security personnel were killed against 33
last year and62 in 2005,92 in 2004.
However, the surrender rate of militants has shown an
upward
curve. Reports said that 42 militants had
surrendered in 2003 which went up to 50 in 2005,74 in
2006.During the last five months 10 rebels have
surrendered.
During the last one and a half year the number of
grenade attacks and IED explosions too have declined
The rate has come down from 17 blasts to three. During
the last five months 11 militants were arrested in the
Jammu region and 10 had surrendered before the
