| Bachelor’s hurdle finally rolls down, Master’s to follow soon | | JU scraps rule which restricts appearances for UG exam | |
Devender Padha Jammu | May 22 Giving major relief and infusing fresh lease of security in the Under Graduate candidates, University of Jammu (JU) has decided to scrap the prevailing statue of examination which restricts a candidate to maximum of eight appearances in under graduate examination exceeding which he would be liable for debarment from appearing further. Effecting which, an under graduate could avail unlimited chances to cross Bachelor’s hurdle. Meanwhile, University authorities were further exploring the possibility of extending this benefit to the candidates of Master Degree Programme. Giving details, Prof Deshbandhu, Controller of Examination JU told it was the long pending demand of student community to scrap the said statue for the benefit of all the under graduate candidates. The matter was under the consideration of authorities from last several months but few days back Vice Chancellor, Prof Amitabh Mattoo in anticipation of JU authorities gave the nod for the same, he added. He further told that this decision would ease out considerable amount of tension from the minds of thousands of under graduate candidates who have exhausted their prescribed number of chances including a mercy chance also. “It will also relieve the candidates, who are appearing in the ongoing under graduate examinations, and infuse a fresh sense of security among them”, he said. According to sources, University authorities are also exploring the possibility of extending this benefit to its Post Graduate candidates as well and the order in this regard is likely to come out soon. It is to mention that, according to a University statue, a student whether graduate or post graduate, was eligible to avail a maximum of eight appearances to clear his examination failing which he would be debarred. As a result, hundreds of candidates were debarred from graduation examination. And most of the victims were under privileged students and the girls who were married during the college days. Meanwhile, a delegation of National Conference Students Union (NCSU) under the leadership of Vikas Sharma called on Controller Examinations this morning and apprised him about the difficulties faced by the student community. On which, Prof Deshbandhu informed them that one of their demands, to scrap the limit of appearances for UG examination, has been conceded and other demands including speedy evaluation of M Phil papers will also be looked upon.
