5/23/2007 11:34:10 PM

Jammu May 23
Even as the reported irregularities in the final list of supervisors in the Social Welfare Department Udhampur had forced the state government to quash the list; this has left the erring officers go scot-free while leaving 19 genuine candidates to lose their jobs. This - courtesy prevailing favoritism in the government set up.
The 19 candidates, who claim their candidature the genuine and on merit, are running from pillar to post to save their careers, sources said. The resentment is brewing among the 19 supervisors whose appointment was held genuine by two Inquiry Committees but they too lost the job for their no fault due to the quashing of the list. These aggrieved have appealed to the Government to re-consider their decision and cancel appointments of only those six candidates, who had been appointed through back-door.
‘And when the list had been titled as ‘illegal and tempered for only the six candidates’ by two Inquiry Committees and was scrapped by the GAD later on, the 19 aggrieved of this scrapped list have questioned, why the appointment authority has been allowed to go scot-free.
In latest developments the quashing of the said controversial selection list, has landed Ashok Parmar presently vice chairman Jammu Development Authority (the then member of the selection committee) in a hot soup. He is facing allegations of harassment of employees and turning situation for him like - out of fire to frying pan. As the JDA controversy has not yet seized while another skeleton has emerged from the cupboard aiming him to sail through troubled waters.
For inept it is to mention here that Government finally has quashed the controversial list after two inquiry committees- one headed by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Pramod Jain and another by Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur O P Kalandria, in a concurrence had established the allegations into the fact that six candidates had been shown ‘in the controversial list as Supervisors in the SWD’. Both committees underlined that six names were found in the final list while their names didn’t figure out amongst the 84 candidates short-listed for the interview, sources said. Even the concerned minister too has admitted the fact and findings of the two committees. He stated that list was tempered and six candidates including a kin of an MLA were accommodated by replacing the names of selected candidates thus making it "erroneous and fiddled is a known fact now.’
The fate of the 19 candidates is hanging in uncertainty but whatever be the reason, they are just cursing their selection along with those favored by the influential that has become the reason for them to lose their jobs. With a little hope they yearn and wish for justice from government to their genuine selection, sources in Udhampur said.
