| Centre releases Rs 1.60 cr under SGSY to J&K | | | JAMMU, May 23 Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India has released Rs. 160. 38 lakhs, as part of the first installment of the central share for 2007-08 to J&K, under the centrally sponsored scheme Swaranjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana(SGSY). Under the Scheme, Centre has to release total amount of Rs. 1036.54 lakhs to the State during the current fiscal for implementation of the scheme. The amount has been released to District Rural Development Agencies in the State for implementing the scheme. Out of Rs.160.38 lakh released as first installment, Jammu Division has got Rs.86.90 lakh, while Kashmir Division gets a share of Rs. 73.48 lakh. Doda district has been allotted the highest allocation of Rs. 21.35 lakh while Kathua district gets the lowest allocation of Rs.8.02 lakhs. District Udhampur has been allotted Rs.19.20 lakh followed by Jammu district with an allocation of Rs. 14.58 lakh, Rajouri Rs. 14.20 lakh and Poonch district Rs. 9.55 lakh for implementation of the scheme. The SGSY is a major on-going program for the self-employment of rural poor. The basic objective of the scheme is to bring the poor families (Swarozgaris) above the Poverty Line by providing them income generating assets through a mix of bank credit and government subsidy. The SGSY is funded on 75:25 cost sharing basis between the Centre and the States.
