| Funds kept for upliftment of Gujjar, Bakerwals be utilized properly: Peerzada | | | Jammu | May 23 State Congress Committee President Peerzada Mohd. Sayeed has favoured the extending of all benefits and rights to the Scheduled Tribe people in the State for their overall upliftment. Addressing a largely attended convention of Gujjar Bakerwals Wing of the party of Badhad Dendipora in his Kokernag constituency about 40 kms from Anantnag, PCC Chief said that Gujjar Bakerwals are facing several disadvantages and disabilities in life because of their traditional way of living including a sizeable sections being nomadic in habit. The grant of scheduled Tribe status to them has helped their upliftment but still a lot needs to be done for their progress in every field by extending all benefits available to them as Scheduled Tribe in the constitution. Peerzada said that the schemes and allocation of funds for their upliftment and extending of various kinds of facilities need to be implemented properly and any complaint for diversion of their funds should be effectively dealt with. The PCC Chief said that Gujjar Bakerwals are scattered in almost all parts of the State and it is necessary that every area of their inhabitation should be duly represented in the Boards meant for them at Distt and State level for monitoring the schemes and other benefits being extended to them. He said Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is keen for improving their socio-economic standard and their participation in every sphere of life. The Scheduled Tribes have been given reservation in Panchayats and Local Bodies for their adequate participation. Others who addressed included Ch. Mehar Noor-Senior Congress leader and Member State Gujjar Bakerwal Advisory Board, Gulzar Ahmed Wani- President DCC Anantnag, Gh. Mohd. Mir and Inayat Ullah Rather-President Dist. Youth Congress Anantnag.
