BJP seeks probe in politician-militant-police nexus
5/23/2007 11:51:58 PM
Jammu, May 23,
The state unit of the BJP has demanded a high level probe for unearthing what it calls “militant-politician-police nexus in Doda district.” This demand was raised by the BJP leaders,Dr Nirmal Singh and Daya Kishen Kotwal, when three muslims, victims of police highhandedness, flanked them, at a press conference here today.
While giving a lie to Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad’s, claim that militants were out and down Dr Nirmal Singh said that militants had resurfaced in the Assembly constituency of the Chief Minister because of the patronage they received from one SHO Gandoh, Farooq Ahmed Wani. Citing series of instances Nirmal Singh and Daya Kishen Kotwal said that Wani has been instrumental in the recent migration of 21 families of the Hindus, comprising 65 members. They said that as a result of the nexus between police and militants the agreement reached with the migrant families on returning to their home village has not been implemented.
The BJP leaders said that under the agreement Farooq Ahmed wani was to be transferred to another area, setting up of one CRPF picket in the village, strengthening of VDCs and equipping civilians with weapons and action against the SHO had not been implemnented forcing the migrants to defer their return plan.
Dr Nirmal Singh introduced three nationalist muslims,Haji Umar Din,Ashique Hussain and Nazir Ahmed, who had been victims of militants. He said that these three muslims had,at the risk of militants, helped the security forces in arresting and eliminating militants. He said it was shocking that on the pretext of being rewarded Farooq Ahmed subjected them interrogation and torture in the interrogation cell.
The BJP leaders wanted the Chief Minister and DG Police,Mr Gopal Sharma,to hold a probe into all these incidents so that Hindus and nationalist muslims were not forced to migrate from the entire Doda district. They suspected the hand of a senior Congress leader and a close kin of Ghulam Nabi Azad in posting Farooq Wani as SHO Gandoh. The BJP also expressed concern over the withdrawal of security cover provided to one BJP leader,Mela Ram of Bhalessa. They said after the security cover was withdrawn Mela Ram has been confined to his house. His task of exposing the militant hideouts has been totally restricted. The BJP leaders also berated the SHO Gandhov for exposing the those nationalists who were assisting security forces in identifying militant hideouts.
