| Sajjad Lone opposes glorification of violence | | | Srinagar,May 23 Peoples’Conference Chief,Mr Sajjad Gani Lone is one among a few Kashmiri separatists who have come out openly against what he calls “glorification of violence.”Addressing a public rally in connection with the death anniversary of his father,Mr Abdul Gani Lone, here yesterday he said that “we have lost one generation in the 17-year old violence. Now is the time that we save the present generation and this can be done by condemning and not glorifying violence.” He said that those who tried to glorify violence and support it were enemies of people of Kashmir. He is again the first Kashmiri separatist who has opposed the usual practice of religious and political leaders of issuing Fatwahs. He said the Fatwah era was gone and one has to reckon with the aspirations of people. Mr Sajjad Lone has referred to the demand for trifurcation of the state. He said reports indicated that people in the regions of Jammu and Ladakh have been alleging a raw deal from the valley centric ruling politicians and bureaucrats. He said better option would be to involve representatives of people from both these regions in talks.Their involvement was necessary in both the trilateral and bilateral talks between Delhi and Srinagar. He said that if Jammuites and those in Ladakh felt uncomfortable with the valley their demand for statehood status could be explored. He,however, hastened to add that attempts needed to be made to preserve the unity among the three regions. Here again he is the first separatist to favour participation of representatives of Jammu and Ladakh in the talks on the settlement of the Kashmir issue.Other separatists have been claiming that their alone represented people of Kashmir and hence they needed to be involved in bilateral or trilateral talks. While referring to his participation in the Assembly election Mr Lone said “there does not seem any justification for participation in the poll.” He was candid when he said that once the Kashmir resolution was in sight “we can think of taking part in the election because then we will have something to sell to people.” At present we have nothing to offer to people, who have suffered and sacrificed their lives for the peaceful and durable of the Kashmir issue. If one compares PDP’s self-rule and National Conference’s autonomy with Lone’s nationhood idea one would find that Lone is supportive of limited independence for the state and opposed to incorporation of Kashmir with Pakistan. In his 300-page document ,containing his solution to the Kashmir issue,he has suggested a political arrangement in Jammu and Kashmir which was followed in toto in Pakistan administered Kashmir.(KIP) Third story
