| Record visitors at I&H exhibition | | | Srinagar, May 23
An ongoing Industrial and Handicrafts exhibition in the Kashmir Valley has drawn a record number of people from across Jammu and Kashmir.
The 53rd Industrial and Handicrafts exhibition is showcasing the immense growth witnessed by the State in various industries and handicraft sectors.
Over 45,000 visitors have thronged the 21-day exhibition in its first two weeks here at the Kashmir Haat. Such a massive crowd has been witnessed for the first time since insurgency hit the State in 1989. Jammu and Kashimir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the exhibition offers a platform for the local craftsmen and industrialists to show the immense development taking place in the valley. "This exhibition is equally important for our people and outsiders. People from outside Kashmir will get to know the industrial development of the state. They may buy things on the spot. Once they are back to their places they will tell about the Sate-of-the-Art products," said Azad on the inauguration day.
The exhibition has 68 stalls set up by the State government along with various small scale industrial units of Jammu and Kashmir displaying their products and achievements.
The exhibition used to be organised in November which could not attract many tourists due to chilly weather. It was decided by the State government to hold it twice a year.
"This exhibition will continue for 21 days but it can be extended. Its aim is to highlight the industrial development of Jammu and Kashmir. The exhibition has successfully shown how modern machines and traditional handicrafts are boosting development in the State together," said Muzaffar Hussain, the General Manager of the District Industries Centre of Kashmir.
The participating artisans say the exhibition is a big help for the local craftsmen and small scale industry owners to market their products.
"We have displayed our products in this exhibition. Our products are getting good advertisement through this exhibition. In small scale industries, marketing is a big issue. Through this exhibition, our products are being marketed very well. Such events are necessary for us," said Tariq Ahmad, an artisan.
"We have come here to watch the industrial development of our State. We have seen many new things like new techniques of juice-making, generator manufacturing, readymade clothes at stalls. We are amazed after learning about so much development in the State," said Shakeel, a visitor.
