Terror literature splurge in Kashmir
5/23/2007 11:59:41 PM

Srinagar, May 23
Jammu and Kashmir police have found another video Compact Disc (CDs) featuring Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden exhorting Muslims all over the world to join the jihad against the infidels while featuring scenes of militant attacks in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kashmir.

The CDs were a part of consignment of explosives hidden inside a bus bound towards Katra, the base camp of Vaishno Devi as unclaimed luggage.

The CDs, in Arabic language with English subtitles also asked the Muslims to join the ‘freedom fighters’ in Kashmir to wage war against India.

This is the second time that police have seized CDs with messages of Osama bin Laden. Last year, the police recovered similar CDs from a militant hideout in border district Poonch.

A police source said that one of the CDs showcase Al-Qaeda “Success” in Iraq, Afghanistan and Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the police, it carries the images of militants blowing up armoured vehicles, tanks, army convoys and buildings somewhere in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the CDs also showed the images of last year attack on a political rally in Srinagar where eight persons were killed. They also carried pictures of some foreign soldiers held captive, blindfolded and later shot dead. No doubt, the CDs are aimed to motivate Muslim youth towards jihad. However, the police here are more worried about the confiscation of maps of the power project Sayal in Reasi town of Jammu along with Hindu pilgrimage site Mata Vaishno Devi at Katra.

It is said that all the seized explosives were a part of major consignment of ammunition meant to strike Hydel power project Sayal and Vaishno Devi shrine. Already, the shrine is at hit list of the militants and several attacks have been carried in the past targeting the shrine. Over six million Hindus visit the holy shrine every year. Meanwhile, with the summers already set in, the infiltration from Pakistan side to Jammu and Kashmir has been on rise, say the Indian army sources here.

Few cases have been reported recently in Poonch area of Jammu region where the militants have cut in border fence by short circuiting the electricity circuit run at nights to thwart incursion into Indian side.

Sources have informed that due to shortage of power generators used to pass electricity in barbed iron fence, there have been at least three incidents in the region when militants have crossed over, according to the wireless intercepts of the army. Moreover, intelligence reports say that mentors of militants across the borders have made it mandatory for fresh infiltrators to use Global Positioning System (GPS) devices than the local human guides while attempting incursions.

A group of militants that surrendered recently said that since human guides were double crossing militants by getting them killed by Indian security forces, the GPS have been more trusted mode of route information and can be used easily. This is done to save the fresh recruits from getting trapped by Indian forces.
