| Manjit inaugurates ‘Sau Din Kaam Kay’ scheme under NREGA | | | JAMMU, MAY 23 To educate ruralties about National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), a training-cum-orientation camp ‘Sau Din Kaam Kay’ for Ex-Sarpanch, Panchs and implementing officials was inaugurated by Minister of State for School Education and CA& PD S. Manjit Singh at Vijaypur here today. MLA Bishnah Mr. Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Samba Mr. B. S. Jamwal, Assistant Development Commissioner, Principal Regional Training Institute and other senior officers of RDD, Sarpanchs, Panchs and locals were also present. Soon after inaugurating the camp, the Minister reiterated that both the central and state governments are taking keen interest to provide basic facilities to the rural people particularly those residing in far-off inaccessible areas of the state which include drinking water, road connectivity, opening and upgradation of educational institutions, repair and renovation of lanes, drains and by-lanes. He said that on the concerted efforts of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, the centre has launched NREGA in the State providing 100-day wages employment in a year to every rural household whose adult members are willing to do un-skilled manual work included water conservation, water harvesting; drought proofing, afforestation and tree plantation, irrigation canals including micro and minor irrigation works; provision of irrigation facility to land owned by household belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, land beneficiaries of land reforms or that of the beneficiaries under the Indira Awas Yojana of the Government of India, renovation of traditional water bodies including desilting of tanks, land development, flood control and protection works including drainage in water logged areas, rural connectivity to provide all weather access, construction of roads, culverts and other work which may be notified by the Central Government in consultation with the State government. He said that NREGA would become operative in the notified districts. He informed that the applicant should apply for registration in village Gram Panchayat for ensuring whether the applicant residing in the village, if authenticated, then the panchayat has to register the name and issue job card for work. He said that the applicant are to be communicated where and when to report for work within 15 days through a letter sent by the Gram Panchayat or Programme Officer. He said that one-third women beneficiaries would get priority under the programme. Minister asked the Rural Development Department authorities to also organise such type of camps in other rural areas of the state so that the ruralties are fully aware with the NREGA saying that it would be implemented before June 20 so that the rural areas to be developed speedily. MLA Bisnah Mr. Ashwani Sharma said that the centre and state governments have already launched number of schemes for the benefit of ruralties. He said that the administration is providing the benefits at their doorsteps. He asked the RDD officers to remain present in their respective stations and create awareness among the villagers about NREGA.
