| IED defused, Arms ammunition recovered | | | Srinagar May 24 Security forces today claimed to have averted a major tragedy by timely detection of an IED planted near Tahira Kaman's college in Lawaypora, area of Srinagar, while arms and ammunition was recovered from tow different places during a joint operation by police and Army. The Improvised device was detected by the Road opening party of 2-RR. Sources informed the IED was detected early this morning when a road opening party was on routine check. The entire area was immediately evacuated by Police to avoid any loss of life. Later, the IED was safely diffused by the Bomb Disposal Squad. Meanwhile, Police and Army recovered arms and ammunition from two different palaces in Kashmir valley. Sources added that Budgam Police recovered one AK-47 rifle along with a magazine and 28 rounds from the cowshed of one Mohd Akbar Khan, son of Ab. Ahad, and resident of Kokerkhol, falling under the jurisdiction of police station Charar-e-Sharief. Police has registered a case in this regard Meanwhile, arms and ammunition was recovered during a search operation conducted by 171 Bn. BSF in the general area of village Gohalan near LoC, falling under the jurisdiction of police station Uri, The recoveries included Ten AK Magazines, 300 rounds of AK ammunition, 26 UBGL shells, 48 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one pistol magazine, five hand grenades, 73 rounds of Pika ammunition and two wireless sets with antenna of Kenwood and Yuasa make. Police has registered a case in this regard and has taken up investigations.
