| ABVP demands renaming of JU, SKUAST-Jammu | | |

The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarathi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded the renaming of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-Jammu) as Bawa Jitto Agricultural University and Jammu University (JU) as Maharaja Gulab Singh University.
Addressing a press conference, Suresh Magotra, ABVP-NEC member said that it’s a matter of pride and inspiration that students must feel proud of being a student of a university named as Maharaja Gulab Singh University as he contributed a lot for the expansion of the boundaries of Jammu and Kashmir to Gilgit, Baltistan and Afghanistan. Adding further, he said there are many institutions which are named after Sher-E-Kashmir, but is not accepted that all the institution in state must named as such. He lamented Kashmiri leadership for suppressing the aspirations of Jammu people which is a serious matter of concern.
He also demanded to the Governor (Retd) Lt Gen. SK Sinha and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to concede this genuine demand of Jammu people as Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture University is already in Kashmir and there is no need that Agriculture University in Jammu must also be name as Sher-e-Kashmir this. It is the need of the hour that university must be named as Baba Jitto Agriculture University.
Meanwhile, Mukesh Kumar President ABVP JU unit demanded students’ guest house in the premises of the Campus on the pattern of some other Universities to accommodate the guest of students. .
Appreciating the work of Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Vice Chancellor for timely construction of Girls hostel, ABVP requested him to dedicate it to “Rani Laxmi Bai” who fought to tooth and nail with Britishers during first independence struggle in 1857.
