| Tarigami for market oriented diversification in agriculture | | | Srinagar, August 08 – MLA Kulgam and State Secretary CPI (M) Mr. M. Y. Tarigami has called for bringing market oriented diversification in agriculture for increasing production and productivity. He urged for focussed attention towards cultivation and production of monopoly fruits like walnuts for which agro-climatic condition are congenial in the state. He said diversification in agriculture practices was need of the hour to cope up with the market competition in the WTO regime, adding that it would also help farmers to earn better livelihood. Speaking at a function held at Kulgam, Anantnag today to inaugurate Satellite Fruit and Vegetable Mani at Kulgam, Mr. Tarigami urged for producing new fruit varieties with emphasis on reviving traditional and Indigenous fruits like world famous Ambri. He said area specific approach and modern farm practices are needed to achieve self-sufficiency in the state. He said in view of the a limited scope of Industrial culture in the state, agriculture and horticulture are the only viable sectors that could provide new employment opportunities in the state. Mr. Tarigami said that economic stability was imperative to end political uncertainty and unrest in a society adding that unless these factors responsible for unrest are addressed, it can not be remove. He hoped that setting up of satellite fruit and vegetable mandi at Kulgam would bring economic prosperity in the area which is known for its good quality fruit production. Mr. Tarigami also called upon the riches of the state to invest in fruit industry for generating employment opportunities for the youth.
