| Ranbirpura-Drass constituency of LAHDC goes to poll today | | |
Kargil | May 25 To ensure fair, free and transparent election, 11 Polling stations have been set up for bye election of 1-Ranbirpura-Drass constituency of LAHDC, Kargil for which over 44 presiding\polling Officers have been deployed along with sufficient number of police personnel. Out of 11 Polling stations, three have been identified as sensitive. This information was given in a meeting held here today to take stock of over all arrangements being made for smooth conduct of election. The Deputy Commissioner, Kargil R.K. Bhagat who is also the election authority of the Constituency of LAHDC, Kargil chaired the meeting. It was given out in the meeting that an electorate of 3441 will exercise their right of franchise on May 26 to choose their representative among four candidates who are left in the fray in the fray. The contestants are Mohd. Ismail Baji of PDP while Abdul Hamid, Ghulam Rasool, and GhulamQader Mir all independents. Meanwhile, in order to ensure a free-and-fair poll at the Lower Leh Council, the District Election Authority, Leh. M.K. Dwivedi convened a meeting of Presiding Officers, Mobile Magistrates, Zonal Magistrates, Sector Officer here today. SSP, Leh Alok Kumar along with Addll. Deputy Commissioer, Sonam Gyaltson Returning officer S.D. Deol, Assistant Returning Officer were also present in the meeting. Dwivedi impressed upon the officers, and police to ensure a free and fair polling and maintain a peaceful atmosphere. He further said that the polling station should be made complete one hour earlier of the polling time and instructed the Observer’s should be contacted if any confusion come in the casting of votes etc.
