| Closure encounters to urbanization has left R S Pura youth in trendy addictions | | Sahyog India to launch awareness and anti drug addiction campaign in R S Pura writes Ajay Meenia | |
Believe it or not the exposure to the urban culture has hooked the youths in R S Pura a border town on the new and unbelievable and mind boggling stuffs. It’s not the liquor, charas filled cigarettes but the new generation has bade good bye to the narcotics substances to avoid police cases or being booked under Narcotics and Psychiatric Substances Prohibition Act. For the fresher on this path the new stuff might be incredible and completely out of thought as what one can guess at first blink is for the addiction is either Charas or the Poppy (Afeem) husk. But it is certainly not all this traditional stuff but the new rangers have a variety of the items to have a kick. ‘Gone are the days when the opted for the Corex, (the expectorant with codeine content), Proxivon capsules, even the high dose of Coldarin, (tablets to treat common cold) but the Gen-X is now experimenting the new items flooded in the market, said a drug addict on anonymity. A lean youth eating a sandwich can even turn you mad not for eating a sandwich but due to the stuffing contents it could be anything synthetic glue, Iodex (muscle relaxant), Boot Polish and a toothpaste being used as a taste maker. One really can’t believe it but this modern concept from the close encounters with the Jammu urbanization has hit the border town these days, said a shopkeeper in main market of the town and dealing in hardware materials. Without disclosing his identity he said the sudden increase in the use of synthetic glue and adhesive resin used by the cobblers has made him to surprise and but was the most amazing that the buyers are not cobblers. This made me curious and I asked one day to the young buyer with a threat of complaining his family, only then I could find the real use of the synthetic glue and adhesive resin. ‘Shoe polish, Iodex, Fevi gum, Petrol and spirit, burnt Lizard is being tried by the addicts from the new generation, another addict on anonymity said and added this cost to them a little as compared to other sources of kicking to the chronic addicts. It is also learnt that some youths even have opted for the sniffing of the fossil fuels like Petrol and Diesel to go wild within seconds. Though the taste and magnitude of the kick is different as per the addicts of above said items but one thing they had in common was the cost factor- and easy availability of the addition stuffs. Talking to The Early Times Ashwani Jojra of head of Sahyog India an NGO too expressed his concerns and said this pseudo metro-culture would ruin the young generation and will weaken the economy of the state by weakening the human resources that are needs vitally to the state. He also informed that the Sahyog India will soon launch a comprehensive campaign to create awareness among the young generation by addressing them at schools and colleges through seminars and symposiums related to the concerned subject.
