| Infiltration BID foiled, one soldier killed another injured in exchange of fire | | |
POONCH,May 26 Alert jawans of the Indian army on Saturday morning foiled a major infiltration bid by a group of heavily armed militants in which one soldier was killed and another was critically wounded in Krishnagati sector in the border district of Poonch. A Defence Ministry spokesman,Col. S.D.Goswami,said here today "Indian troops opened fire when a group of militants tried to sneak into Poonch sector from across the LOC."He said that the troops came under heavy from from the group of militants in Krishnaghati sector of Poonch.In the exchange of fire one soldier was killed and another one was injured. The spokesman said that as a result of counter offensive launched by the troops a major infiltration bid was "foiled." He denied reports that the soldier was killed in the exchange of fire between the Indian and the Pakistani troops.He said the reports on violation of four year old ceasefire on the LOC were "baseless." One police report said that Indian troops foiled another infiltration bid in Keri sector of Rajouri. Militants,the police said,tried to infiltrate into Rajouri sector by opening fire on the troops guarding the border but the retaliatory fire by the Indian soldiers forced the rebels to withdraw to their camp across the LOC.(
