| ‘Intellectual persons distancing from politics - a matter of concern’ | | |
Jammu | May 26 MLC, Ashok Sharma has suggested for putting in place an institutional mechanism for compliance of court orders in environment cases in a time bound manner. While addressing a workshop on Compliance with Judicial Orders through Greater Citizens Participation, in environment cases organized by MC Mehta Environment Foundation at Eco-Ashram, Mekawala, Dehradun. He called upon NGOs and other social action groups to come forward in a big way and create awareness about electoral reforms and right to information act for strengthening roots of democracy. He said, that intellectuals should get more and more associated with politics actively so that benefits of their knowledge and expertise reaches the people at grass roots level. He expressed his concern over intellectual class distancing from politics and said that this trend needs to be reverse. Eminent jurists, scientists, academicians and environmentalists, representatives of the enforcement agencies of Central and state Pollution Control Boards participated in the workshop to find solutions on environmental issues. Among those who also expressed their views at the session were environmentalist M.C. Mehta, Michal Jafray, Chief Judge Australia, renowned environment experts P.C. Tyagi, Dr. Dey and Dr. P. Mishra.
