| Finance Commission working may be influenced: Puri | | |
Jammu | May 26 The former working chairman of the Regional Autonomy Committee Balraj Puri has described the decision of the state government to appoint a Finance Commission, as inadequate to achieve its professed objective of balanced growth of regions. He said without an objective form to guide the commission for allocations of funds, its work might be influenced by arbitrary considerations. As per a press release, in this context he urged the government to consider his formula which he had evolved after thorough discussions with leading economist of the country and studying ground and included in his report the formula consisted of eight indices, which included population, area, road mileage in proportion to the area, share in government services and admissions to higher educational institutions, female literacy, infant mortality and contribution to state exchequer. He will not mind any modification of the formula on the basis of a consensus arrived at after a public debate over it, he said.
