JAMMU, Dec 28: As part of NSS 10 days winter camp, the NSS volunteers of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu visited Balgran-Home for Destitute Children at Channi Rama here today. On the 6th day of Annual Winter Camp started on December 22, a group of NSS Volunteers of College led by NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Ashaq Malik visited the Balgran - Home for Orphan and destitute children at Channi Rama in Jammu. An interactive-cultural programme was organized on occasion in which children studying at Bal Bharti School interacted with NSS volunteers and shared their stories and aspirations in life. "I got homely care at Balgran, I wish to help someone in same manner in my life, said an orphan child studying in school. While speaking on occasion Principal of school Urmil Arora the audience expressed her satisfaction on the growth and performance of school. We started with 6 students in one room, now it is a high school with about 178 students, many getting distinctions in board exams, she said. The credit goes to teachers and voluntary contributions from society, some teachers are teaching on purely voluntary basis, I am really thankful to them, she added. Principal of the college, Dr. Kiran Bakshi, appreciated the NSS volunteers for showing concern towards Balgran, and said they can play key role in reaching the less privileged of society through extended community service. |
