Azad says election as per schedule
'Situation not conducive yet to shift forces'

Ruling out any possibility of early Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday said that election to Jammu and Kashmir Assembly would be held as per schedule.
Speaking to media persons at SKICC here Mr. Azad said that next year and half will be dedicated to development adding it is possible because of the massive financial assistance from centre government. "We should not waste even a second in utilizing the liberal funds to make works speak on ground".
In reply to a question, Mr. Azad said that situation is not conducive to shift the security forces from internal duty yet. "Unless situation permits withdrawal of troupes is not practicable". He said that the presence of security forces is particularly required at this juncture when all political parties even Huriyat conference are holding public meetings across the state. "We have experience that whenever any leniency has been given on security front, militants have taken advantage".
Chief Minister said that though all of us desire withdrawal of troupes. Yet it may not be possible to do it in view of the fact that there has been increase in violence incidents in the recent past.
The Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz said central and state governments have sanctioned Rs. 18 crore for the beautification of Jehlum including construction of embankment in Srinagar city. He said the centre government would release more funds if required for the development of parks, illumination, beautification and reconstruction of Chattabal Weir.
Prof. Soz said Jehlum represents cultural identity of the Valley and demands focused attention for conservation and protection. He said that a detailed project on river Jehlum would be analyzed by the Union and State governments and if required his ministry would provide additional funds for preservation of river.
He said his ministry would give a concrete proposal for restoration, revival and conservation of all the water bodies in Jammu and Kashmir including river Jehlum and its tributaries. For the purpose, he said, appropriate funds would be allocated in 11th Plan.
"We have a 5000 years old recorded history in which the great river has been referred to as Weyth", adding that Jehlum is symbol of our civilization and it is our duty to restore its past glory.
Prof. Soz said that the documentary on river Jehlum prepared by Irrigation and Flood Control Department depicts pathetic condition of river Jehlum. He urged television and channels network to telecast the film so that the required awareness is created about the state of affairs of the great heritage. He said lot of filth and sewerage has been allowed to trickle into river Jehlum making its waters dirties and hazardous. This practice has to be stopped once for all, he added.
