| Separate treasuries for industrial units: Karra | | | Srinagar, May 26 - Acknowledging prime importance of industries in generating economic growth, Minister for Planning and Finance Mr. Tariq Hameed Karra has said that government is contemplating to issue directions to the government departments to procure goods from local entrepreneurs through Small Scale Industrial Corporation (SICOP). This, he said, would promote marketing avenues for local industries besides facilitating procurement process of raw material for them. Mr. Karra was addressing industrialists at a function organized by Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) here today. Planning Secretary Mr. S. S. Kapoor, Commissioner Secretary Finance Mr. B. B. Vyas, Commissioner Excise Mr. Abdul Hamid, Director Industries Mr. Jeet Lal Gupta besides other officers were also present on the occasion. The Minister said that two separate treasuries one each at Jammu & Srinagar would be set up by 30th June this year exclusively for making payments to small scale industrial units. He said State Finance Corporation (SFC) would also be revived in a couple of months to make available capital to entrepreneurs. To protect local industry, a host of incentives have been given to local industrialists including Amnesty, One Time Settlement Scheme etc Mr. Karra said and added it is high time for industrialists to strive for independence by concentrating on growing the industry on more professional lines. The Minister said that government would soon come out with differential industrial policy where under industries would be promoted as per the availability of local potential so that industry is made area specific. He called upon the industrial fraternity to avoid lethargic approach and venture in by commitment and choice, adding they should not bank upon government favour any longer as only the fittest survive in the long run.
