| Omar for simplifying travel procedure through LOC | | 'Suggests introduction of smart card' | |
Surnkote (Poonch), May 26 Calling for simplifying the traveling procedure through various links along the LOC, President National Conference Omar Abdullah today suggested for introducing a smart card to be used by the visitors coming from either side. Addressing a public rally in Surnkote area of Poonch, Omar said that the people intending to travel through these links to meet their relatives are facing immense problems due to complicated procedures and added that the process of completing the formalities for getting travel documents should be simplified so that maximum number of people could avail the facility.
He said that very less people from this side are enable to visit to other side because of the complicated formalities required to be fulfilled for getting the travel papers and added that government should introduce a smart card for those willing to visit their relatives on the other side.
Omar said that due to the difficult formalities required to be fulfilled, very less people are able to avail the facility as is evident from the available figures of the people who traveled from either side since the opening of these roads.
"Introduction of Smart card will ease the process and people who intend to visit their families will have not to wait for months together", Omar added.
Omar stressed for extending the facility for every one willing to travel from either side of the LOC, adding, limiting it only to divided families has not been able to establish the 'people to people contact' across LoC at the desired scale.
He said extending the facility to all the people living on either side of the Line of Control would help in further strengthening the internal Confidence Building Measures.
Omar who is on a ten day tour to border districts said that the road connectivity of these areas is pitiable and nothing has been done despite tall claims of the government. "Making announcements does not mean that the projects would be taken up and completed", he said adding huge funds under various center sponsored schemes have been received but nothing is visible on the ground.
