| CM inspects works at Srinagar International Airport | | Stresses for early completion | |
Srinagar, May 27 Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad today inspected construction work of new terminal and other infrastructure being raised at Srinagar international airport. He also interacted with the airport authorities and was apprised of the progress and nature of various constructions. Chief Minister underlined the importance of developing Srinagar airport as International airport and said that this would help in a big way to boost tourism and enhance trade and commerce activities in the state. Mr. Azad impressed upon the authorities to speed up the execution works and complete the international airport as early as possible. On the occasion, Chief Minister was informed by the Airport authority that the capacity of existing terminal building at Srinagar Airport would be enhanced for handling 450 international and 500 domestic passengers during peak hours. The new terminal building would have all modern amenities like aerobridges, central heating system, conveyor belts, air conditioning system, escalators, lift, PA System, CCTV and baggage handling belts. Besides, the expansion of terminal building, Airport authority has also planned additional parking bays to accommodate wide bodied jet aircraft and parking bays suitable for international chartered flights. The existing Apron and Taxi track having a total area of 13045 sq. meters is to be increased to 55820 sq. meters with one additional Tax track. After the expansion Apron will be capable of accommodating 4 Nos. A321-200, 1 No. B767-400 ER and 2 Nos. B777-200 types of aircrafts. The total cost of the project is Rs. 125 crore which includes the extension of terminal building with all modern facilities. At present 70 per cent of the building work has been completed and it is expected that it will be completed by October 2007. Among others Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Anil Goswami, District Development Commissioner Budgam Mr. Farooq Ahmad Renzu and official of Airport Authority were present on the occasion.
