| Shastri urges PM for special package to resource deficit States | | | Jammu May 27 President National Mazdoor Conference Subash Shastri has urged the Prime Minister to constitute a high powered committee headed by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister for providing special package to resource deficit states to implement 6th Pay Commission recommendations simultaneously across the state. Azad has vast experience and would be most suitable to head the committee, Shastri added. In a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh, the Mazdoor Conference President said that the committee should comprise Union Finance Minister, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission and Chief Ministers of various states. He said Jammu and Kashmir with other such states having limited resource base should be given financial package by the Central Government for implementing the 6th Pay Commission recommendations for the employees. In the memorandum, Shastri has appreciated the pace with which the Pay Commission Chairman B .S Sri Krishna and other members of the Commission is engaged in holding discussion and touring various states to know the views of State government and the representatives of the employees federation before finalizing recommendations. He hoped that the pay panel would submit its report by December this year and demanded that interim relief of Rs.1000 per month be given to the employees immediately in view of the soaring prices of essentials. Shastri has also urged the Prime Minister to declare Jammu and Srinagar as B-I cities as these fulfill all the requisite norms for this status.
