JAMMU | MAY 27
Recognizing the constitutional rights of the women and to give them equal rights in all spheres, the Jammu and Kashmir State has made a good beginning and has posted nearly ten women to head various government departments.
R S Pura, a border town and one of the oldest tehsils in Jammu and Kashmir, has taken the lead in this behalf where nearly ten departments are headed by women, apart from a woman legislator.
This is perhaps, for the first time, when majority of the departments in a tehsil are headed by women. Whether it is the matter of education, development, delivering justice or any other sector, woman are first everywhere .Not only this, but whole R.S.Pura constituency is under woman supervision. The tehsil which has recently been upgraded as sub district is also headed by a woman. Those heading the departments include Sub divisional magistrate Man Deep Kaur, BDO is Gurmeet Kaur, Zonal Education Officer Asha Pathania, President Muncipal Committee Sunita Rani,Executive officer Municipal Committee Kiran Bala, Principal Degree College Nalini Kohli ,Additional Munsif Renu Dogra. Not only this, even the lone elected woman legislator Ms Suman Bhagat is also from this particularly tehsil.
While talking to “Early times” Principal Degree College Mrs. Nalini Kohli said that a lady has so many responsibilities. There is a lot of difference between a house wife and working woman, but the responsibilities are same. She further said that she never felt herself alone in her 30 year service in the education department.
SDM Man Deep Kaur maintained that woman are no more behind the men and with the every passing day woman are coming forward to share the responsibilities assigned to them adding that she has been appointed the first SDM of the newly upgraded Sub District RS Pura and expressed her confidence to deliver. She said that the success of an officer can be judged as how far she keeps all people together and works for their betterment without bias.
Z.E.O Asha Pathaniya says that it is very important for a woman to be literate. A woman will never be defeated in any field if she is qualified. She said that every parent should educate their girl child.
At the same time President Municipal Committee Sunita Rani said that it is for the first time in the history of R.S.Pura that a woman has been elected as the president of municipal committee and she is very happy being the first lady chairperson .Being as a lady she takes care of her children as well as her home. She believes that if there is a family support, woman can excel in every field.
Executive Officer (MC) Kiran Bala says that since she joined in RS Pura nearly 10 months back, she faced so many problems but never gave up and continued her assigned work with a missionary zeal.. ‘Ups and down are part of live and the other name of struggle is woman, she maintained.
Renu Dogra Additional Munsif said that court is made only to deliver justice and she ensures that an innocent person is never harmed or made to suffer.
B.D.O Gurmeet Kour said block development Department is always on the vigil of the people and asserted that she would come up to the expectations of the people .She is proud to be appointed as a BDO, first such officer in the state.
Apart from these lady officers, RS Pura is proud to have elected their woman representative. She is none but Suman Bhagat who has seen many upheavals in the political career and is credited to have defeated her strong opponents.
Being the lone elected woman legislator, she was appointed as Health Minister in the Mufti led coalition government and is currently a senior Congress leader. She said that women have equal rights in the society and the time has come when they should rise to the occasion and seek their equal share in decision making bodies. She advocated for 33 per cent reservation in Parliament and State Assemblies for the woman.
The woman is no longer lagging behind in any field and in certain cases has dominated the ever crazy men folk. This has been amply proved by making nearly a dozen women to head the departments that have always remained the domain of men folk.
