| First Samprati Samman awarded | | |
Jammu | May 27 Samprati, a literary organization of ‘Kashmiri writers in exile’ today held a function to confer the first Samprati Samman on the noted writer Arjan Dev Majboor. The award which has been started from the 2006 was conferred on Majboor for his work Tahqueek. Majboor has been active in literature for the last sixty years. Though primarly a poet, Majboor has written extensively on history, sociology, criticism, language, customs etc. in Kashmiri, Urdu, Hindi, and English. He is one of the few writers of Kashmir who is not only well acquainted with Dogri has also conducted research works to his credit. His recent efforts in this direction have been a major contribution to the first Kashmiri translation of well-known history of Kashmir Rajtarangni. His translation of the oldest extent work of Kashmir, Nilamat Puran is shortly being published by the Cultural Academy. Two books in Kashmiri were also released on the occasion.
