| Independent candidate wins Ranbirpura- Drass LAHDC by-election | | |
Kargil | May 28 Independent candidate Ghulam Rasool was declared elected for Ranbirpura constituency of LAHDC, Kargil for which bye-election was held on May 26. Ghulam Rasool won the election with a margin of 775 votes defeating his nearest rival Ghulam Qadir. He polled 1453 votes while Ghulam Qadir secured 678 votes. The other candidate Mohammed Ismail Baji of PDP got 242 votes and Abdul Hamid, Ind secured 303 votes. According to Returning Officer, C.L. Raina, out of 3441 electorate 2702 voters exercised their franchise. After declaring the result, Ghulam Rasool was taken in a precession. While addressing the gathering he extended thanks to the people of Ranbirpura- Drass constituency for their support. He assured the people that he will work with dedication for the welfare and development of the area. Among others who spoke on the occasion included Qamar Ali Akhon, Councilor Lankarchey, former MP Ghulam Hassan Khan, Councilor Kachoo Ahmad Ali Khan, Councilor Aga Syed Baqir, Kachoo Feroz Ahmad Khan and councilor Abdul Rahim. He thanked the Deputy Commissioner, R.K. Bhagat and other election functionaries for conducting free, fair and transparent election.
