| Summer veterinary camps set up at highland pastures | | | JAMMU, MAY 29 To provide veterinary aid to the sheep and goats migrated from planes of Jammu province to the alpines of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, the department of Sheep Husbandry Jammu has set up Summer Veterinary Camps (SVCs) at various locations of highland pastures. The camps which are being supervised by the supervisory/para-veterinary staff of different organizations of the department shall remain functional until the stay of the migratory flocks at the highland pastures. Giving details Director Sheep Husbandry Department (SHD), Dr B.R Bhagat said that 25 SVCs have been established by various organizations of the department which included 5 camps at Heerbagan, Naranag, Kangan, Sonamarg and Pahalgam in Kashmir and one camp at Drass in Ladakh region while as 19 camps have been established at various locations of highland pastures of Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur and Kathua district in Jammu province. This is in addition to the camps which district officers of all districts establish for semi-migratory flocks at highland pastures. Moreover, a control room has also been established at Lal Mandi, Srinagar which is being monitored by the Mobile Officer of Sheep Husbandry Department Jammu who is in close touch with the Director SHD Kashmir whose logistic support is indispensable during the migration period. Dr Bhagat stressed upon the field staff engaged with the SVCs to render all possible assistance to the flock owners so that the problems if any, confronted during their stay at the highland pastures be got addressed properly. He further stressed upon the staff to ensure punctuality at these camps. He directed the controlling officers including Joint Director Extension, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Jammu and Assistant Project Officer Jammu and warden to ensure frequent visits to these camps and submit the feed-back to the Directorate.
