Hakeem reviews contingency plan for smooth conduct of Amarnath yatra

Srinagar, May 29
Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen visited Baltal and Sonamarg on Monday alongwith a team of senior officers and reviewed the arrangements made by the government for Amarnath Yatra starting from June, 30. MLA Mian Altaf Ahmad accompanied the Minister. During his tour of Baltal which is the base camp the Minister directed to start camping arrangements in anticipation for providing facilities to the yatries. He was told that Shrine Board has already raised some structures at the base camp Baltal while as work for erecting tents has been started. He announced that state government has taken various steps of urgent nature for conduct of smooth yatra.
Hakeem Yaseen discussed in detail the contingency plan formulated for providing better transport and other facilities to the yatries visiting Amarnathji Cave via Baltal, at a high level officers meeting at Sonamarg.
The meeting among others was attended by the MLA Kangan Mian Altaf, Commissioner Secretary Mr. Davinder Nargotra, IG Traffic Raja Ajaz Ali, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Mr. G.N. Bodha, Transport Commissioner Mr. Dalip Singh, RTO Kashmir Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Mir, General Manager SRTC Administration Mr. Yogesh Koul besides senior Army, Beacon, Police and civil officers.
Transport Minister said that SRTC would provide transport facilities to the yatries for the first time from Delhi to Baltal besides operating special services from Jammu and Srinagar. He directed the traffic police for regulating the traffic system with the coordination of Army authorities so as to provide comfortable transport facilities to the yatries. He said sizeable number of passenger services would be made available for transportation of yatries from different destinations to the base camp-Baltal. He directed for regulation of transport system in such a way that Ladakh Transport and supplies movement would not get disturbed.
The Minister asked Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal to fix fare rates for all type of passenger vehicles from Srinagar to Sonamarg and Baltal besides rates for Ponies and Dandi-wala in addition to fixing of rates for various essentials, sugar, k-oil and LPG for the base camp Baltal. He said action would be taken against those transporters who are found operating their vehicles without permission from Srinagar to Baltal. He said that for smooth regulation of traffic system a booking counter would be set up at Sonamarg, while as the bus terminal constructed by the Tourism Department having capacity of 500 vehicles would be completed before the commencement of yatra.
Hakeem Yaseen directed the Ganderbal Police not to allow any yatri for moving from Baltal to cave ahead of commencement of yatra, keeping in view the bad weather condition in the area. He underline the need for close coordination in between the Army, Beacon, traffic, District Administration Ganderbal, Police, Tourism and other allied agencies so that yatra is conducted smoothly and peacefully.
Hakeem Yaseen also took stock of the problems confronting the locals of the area. He hoped that the peaceful yatra would improve the socio economic condition of people leaving across the Ganderbal District besides providing job opportunity to hundreds of youth. He assured that the implementation of the Sonamarg Master Plan would be taken up with the Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad for overall development of the world famous tourist spot Sonamarg.
