Jammu, May 29,
Holding picture of Subedar Assa Singh, one of the 54 prisoners of war believed to be languishing in Pakistani jails in her arms, silent prayer on her lips and blessings of God almighty and all other near and dear ones, Nirmal Kour, flanked by her seven children from all sides, on Tuesday evening stepped out of her house in search of her missing husband in foreign land.
Before starting her journey she also appealed to the
International red cross society and various NGO’s,social and political organizations working in Pakistan to come forward and help them reunite with their loved ones languishing in different Pakistani jails for past 36 years.
"I appeal to all the agencies working in Pakistan to come to our aid and help us reach our loved ones kept in differnt Pakistami jails for pat 36 years," Nirmal Kour said before embarking on her lifes’ toughest and longest journeys ever in search of her husband all alone.
Nirmal Kour is awaiting arrival of her husband from the war front since 1971 from where he was captured by Pakistani army and held back as prisoner of war along with several other army and Airforce personnel.
The Pakistani foreign office has not cleared name of any of her children as requested by her as due to old age it is difficult for her to manage travel.
Her two sons will only accompany her to New Delhi from she will go on her own with a team of Indian officials and relatives of other POW's.
As she moved out of her house and stepped in white Maruti van familiy members of six other prisoners of war, who had gathered at their residence in Nanak Nagar once again reminded her to look out for their loved ones inside the jail. Nirmal Kour is the only relative of seven POW from Jammu and Kashmir who has received clearance from Pakistan foreign office.
It may be mentioned that these Indian families of Prisoners of war are undertaking their journey to Pakistan in the backdrop of a recent statement which originated from Islamabad in which they had specifically denied presence of any Indian Prisoner of war in any of the Pak jails. The foreign office spokesperson made it clear in their statement that they are allowing visit of families of PoW on humanitarian ground.During their visit they will be taken to 10 different Pak jails by Pak authorities, the statement said
