| Seminar to mark ‘No Tobacco Day’ | | | Jammu | May 31 Like other parts of the country the ‘World No Tobacco Day’ was observed here today. To create awareness among the public and students about the ill affects of tobacco, a seminar was held on impact of Alcoholism at Alexandra Memorial School with Ram Sahai President of Chamber of Commerce as the chief guest while MLC Ashok Sharma presided. The function was organized jointly by the Nari Jagran Manch, J&K, YMCA, Jammu and Alexandra Memorial School. The speakers at the function highlighted the ill affects of tobacco and said that about five million people die globally every year due to consumption of tobacco and other pan masala and impressed the need for creating awareness among the masses adding that social and voluntary organization have a definite role in this regard The speakers created a deep sense of awareness among the audience and impressed the teaching fraternity to emphasize the same among the youth so that these intoxicants are shunned by the youth. Education being the main vehicle of social upliftment, teachers have the greatest role to play in the eradication of these social evils and health hazards, the speakers added.. The other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Dimple Anil, Principal Army School, Nagrota, Vandana Sharma, a leading advocate, Sneh Bali, President Nari Jagran Manch, Esther William, Principal Alexandra Memorial Public School Praatibha Mahajan, a social activist and S. M. Gill, Ex MLC.
