Jammu | May 31
Thousands of eyes bid tearful adieu to the Martyr Dy SP Shailly Singh as he was cremated with full Police honour at Shastri Nagar cremation ground amid the presence of large gathering this afternoon. Director General Police, Gopal Sharma along with the entire posse of Police top brass were among the thousands of people gathered on the occasion to bid tearful farewell to the brave cop. Meanwhile, complete bandh was witnessed in some parts of Bhaderwah town against the killing of Shailly.
“Shailly was scheduled to be married next month, but destiny had some thing else for us in the kitty”, said Darshan Kour, his mother while weeping profusely. Shailly was inducted in JKP as Inspector in the year 1995 on compassionate ground in place of his father under SRO 43. His father, Insp. Udey Veer Singh had also attained martyrdom in a militant attack. “He spent most of his service time in Special Operation Group (SOG) of Police while fighting militants in the far flung militancy infested areas of
the states”, said one of his colleagues with tear in eyes. So far, he killed near about 50 militants in several anti-militant operations in several parts of the state. Most recently, he eliminated LeT Commander Abu Talha in an encounter at Sundri bala area of Billawar after two day long operation.
According to sources, Shailly was considered to be the most proficient of the SOG officers and also was on the hit list of the militants. He got the information about the presence of militants in Bhaderwah area while sitting in Jammu and immediately proceeded to the area. But, he was unaware of the fact that death was waiting for him as he got trapped in the militants and killed by them. According to reports, Abu Omar, Divisional Commander of LeT outfit killed DySP Shailly Singh in a planned manner as none of the militants were either killed or arrested by Police.
Meanwhile, Hindu majority areas of Bhaderwah town observed complete bandh as a mark of respect to the martyr. It is to mention that DySP Shailly was killed during a raid on the militants' hideout in Bhaderwah town of district Doda, last evening, where some foreign ultras were held up in a residential building. Earlier, also he escaped several bids on his life during the past few years and his name was on list for upcoming Amarnath Yatra owing to his past experience.
