Motivate others to quit smoking: Mangat to youth

JAMMU, MAY 31
Asking the youth to educate others about smoking hazards and its ill effects on both mental and physical health of the addict and his family, the Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr Mangat Ram Sharma asserted that young minds have strong motivating power that could influence many to quit smoking.
The Minister was addressing the gathering at a function organized to observe ‘World No Tobacco Day’ at Dogra College of Education here is morning.
On the occasion an inter-collegiate symposium was arranged by Health Education Bureau, Directorate of Health Services Jammu on the topic ‘Smoke free environment.
Students from different B.Ed Colleges participated in the symposium and expressed their views on the topic motivating people of immediately quit smoking for healthy future.
Expressing concern over the alarming rise in Tobacco related diseases, Mr Sharma said that coordinated efforts need to be made to fight the menace of smoking. People have to be educated on the dangerous effects of tobacco that could cripple the addict for rest of his life, he added. He stressed upon the youth to create awareness in their surroundings and peer groups.
A Dogri skit on drug addiction and its remedies was presented by the students of Dogra College of Education that received immense applause.
Among the participants, Miss Priya Sharma of KC Khalsa College of Education bagged first prize while Mr Vijay Kumar of Guru Nanak Dev College of Education and Miss Saroj of Dogra College of Education clinched second and third prizes respectively.
The Minister gave away prizes to these best adjudged speakers.
Director Health Services Jammu Dr Jasbir Singh, Principal Dogra College of Education Dr K K Choudhary and Secretary Dogra Educational Trust Mr Samar Dev Singh besides other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
