Valley LIKELY TO WITNESS ‘AAYA RAM GAYA RAM’ ERA
6/1/2007 11:39:21 PM

Srinagar,June 1
Besides infighting within the
state unit of the Congress, the moves for angling
leaders and activists of one political party by the
other have assumed new dimensions in the Kashmir
valley. As the dates for the next Assembly poll draw
near the Kashmir valley may witness an era of 'Aaya
Ram Gaya Ram'.
Within weeks
of his brother,Hakim Aslam,joining the
PDP,Hakim Mohd.Yasin hit back and admitted more
than 12 PDP leaders in his organisation,Peoples'
Democratic Front.

During the last over one year Hakim Yasin has been in
the forefront of those campaigning against Mufti
Mohd.Sayeed. Senior PDP leaders said that Hakim
Aslam had come on
his own with a group of his supporters
for announcing his joining the PDP.
"It is not our fault,"said PDP General Secretary,
Mr Nizam-ud-Din Bhat today.
Mr Bhat said "we do not attach any importance to
the defection of 10 or 12 PDP people.
Most of them had been sidelined by our party."
He said “shaving unwanted hair does not lead to fall
in
weight” Another senior PDP leader,Mr Ghulam
Hassan Mir,said "our boat will not be rocked by the
way 10 to 12 PDP men joined the PDF."
Another PDP leader, who wished to remain unidentified,
said that "we suspect the hand of
ChiefMinister,
Ghulam Nabi Azad.
He said during the last overone year Mr Azad has
been patronising Hakim Yasin who seems to have found
a new mantra for retaining his ministerial post.
That mantra being berating the Mufti, his daughter
and the PDP.
The PDP leadership does not seem to lie low.
Already number of political activists from Congress
and theNational Conference have approached the
Mufti for enrolling them in the PDP.
As a shrewd politician MuftiMohd.Sayeed has shown
no hurry in encouraging defection.
But when it starts getting hot for him he would not
hesitate in retaliating.
Apart from the raging conflict
between the PDP and
the PDF all is not well within the congress party in
Kashmir. The ongoing clash of ego between ChiefMinister,
Ghulam Nabi Azad, and the PCC Chief,Peerzada Mohd.
Syeed,is said to have been reflected by the way the
Baramulla District Committee of the Congress
adopted a resolution suspending Abdul Gani Vakil,
PCC
vice President from the organisation.
Inside reports said that Mr Vakil is consiered to be
the right hand man of Mr Azad, who is on a low key
war with the Peerzada. However,a senior Congress
leader told Kashmir Independent Press that the move
to suspend Mr Vakil from the Baramulla District
Congress committee is the result of opposition of
senior party leaders belonging to Baramulla district.
The Congress
leader said that besides Haji Rashid,
MLA,Ghulam Rasool Kar,MLC,Taj Mohiuddin,a cabinet
Minister and the President of the District Committee
were against Mr Vakil.
He said the relations between Mr Azad and Peerzada
Mohd.Syed have been smoothened and there was no
question of engineering suspension of Mr Vakil by the
Peerzada. He said in fact all those congress leaders
who are against Mr Vakil are staunch supporters of
Mr Azad.
No doubt the resolution adopted by the District
committee of the Congress will not get enforced the
step is seen as a direct challenge to Mr Azad
and
MrVakil, who has been highly vocal in denouncing the
PDP. These reports said that the Congress party in
most ofthe eight districts is a divided house, one set
lobbying for Mr Azad and the other for the Peerzada.
However,Mr Azad is said to enjoy the upperhand in
the Government and in the organisation because he
continues to get support from the centre and the
Congress high command for all his decisions and plans.
The reports said as the dates for the Assembly poll
start drawing near Kashmir valley is likely to witness
an era of Aaya Rams and Gaya Rams.(
