Though elections are far off; legislators busy in serious campaigning
6/1/2007 11:40:47 PM

Jammu,June 1
Except for Mr Harsh Dev Singh
of Panthers Party,Raman Bhalla,Suman Lala Bhagat,
Tara Chand(all Congress MLAs,and Ashwani Sharma,
independent MLA,and Manjit Singh MLA, and Ajay
Sadhotra NC MLA, most of other legislators have
adopted a wait and watch policy in terms of improving their interaction with their electorates in the constituencies which they represent in the Assembly.
Mr Harsh Dev Singh, who won the 2002 Poll by a
margin of 18000 votes against his nearest BSP
candidate,is seen visiting Ramnagar constituency in
Udhampur district frequently.
He said today “I have been spending more than
10 days a month in my constituency for ensuring that
various development projects,sanctioned by the
Government,were executed properly.”
He said that “Panthers Party does not believe in
forcing leaders and activists of other parties to
defect to our side.” “We have faith in ourselves and
the electorate will judge me by the
work I did for the
constituency since 2002.”
In reply to a question Mr Harsh Dev Singh said “it is
too early to say whether the Panthers Party leadership
will field all the four MLAs who had won the 2002
poll.” Another MLA seen “toiling in the field is Raman
Bhalla who was elected from the Gandhi Nagar
constituency by securing 49.81 percent of the total
votes polled in 2002 in the constituency.
While still recovering from a recent fall in the
bathroom, which forced him to get bedridden for over
three months,Mr Bhalla has been visiting various areas
in the constituency alongwith a team of engineers and
other officials.
A snap survey conducted by the
KIP team has
revealed that among all the 37 MLAs in the Jammu
region Mr Bhalla has succeeded in getting series of
development works executed.
Similarly Ajay Sadhotra of NC has been spending
several days in his Marh constituency every month.
Manjit Singh Minister of state for education,Ashwani
Sharma and Tara Chand have started imitating UP
Chief Minister and BSP supremo,Mayawati,by
remaining with the people of their constituencies for
longer periods.However,those belonging to the
Congress have an advantage over those from other
parties.The Congress MLAs,including Suman Bhagat,
have succeeded in getting more roads constructed in
their areas. Raman Bhalla said from December
2002 “I have been on the move in my Gandhi Nagar
constituency.” He said he was keen to help people in
his constituency without an eye for the next
Assembly poll.Harsh Dev Singh said “my job is to work
for the people so that I defeat my rivals with a
bigger margin of votes than secured by me in
2002.”
