6/1/2007 11:42:27 PM

Jammu, MAY 31
Expressing concern over the happenings in Rajasthan, Gurjars of Jammu and Kashmir today appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to fulfill the genuine demand of the community.
"We appeal to the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson to consider the demand of the Gurjars of Rajasthan sympathetically and grant them Scheduled Tribe status," Javaid Rahi, secretary, Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, a leading organisation of the Gurjars in the state, said in a statement here.
He said a fax massage has been sent to the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson with an appeal to intervene in the matter.
Describing the demand for ST status by Gurjars of Rajasthan as "genuine", Rahi said at a meeting, the Gurjars here have vowed to provide moral, legal and ethical support to the members of the community in the desert sate.
He urged the Gurjars to organise peaceful demonstrations and rallies at all district headquarters in the state to express solidarity with their community members in Rajasthan.
