| Azad’s ex-lieutenant joins BSP | | |
Doda | June 3 The strong man of the Chief Ministers home constituency today joined the Bahujan Samaj Party along with his hundreds of supporters here today in the presence of the state in an impressive function here today. Abdul Hafeez Wani, the former chairman of the expelled leader of the Indian National Congress for 27 years and left the party ticket ignoring his seniority. He contested against party’s official candidate Mohd. Sharief Niaz but lost. He later formed his own party Zila Doda Vikas Party. Ab. Hafeez Wani was known to be very close to Chief Minister G.N. Azad when he was in Congress and he was arrested many times under PSA for organizing protest and rallies against the NC government Wani quit the Congress to show his resentment against the mandate to Mohd. Sharief Niaz in assembly elections in 2002. He ST/ST/OBC classes and by joining the Bahujan Samaj Party he regained the lost ground and observers feel that party will get an edge in the near future. Ab. Hafeez Wani expressed satisfaction over the joining of the BSP and added that only BSP will defeat the Congress in Bhaderwah constituency because maximum people in the Bhaderwah belonged to downtrodden community and added that the people are fed up with Chief Minister hollow slogans. He said that Congress party has totally lost its ground at Bhaderwah and the BSP is the only national party which has been working for the poor and farmers. The District President Puran Chand Bhagat BSP welcome Wani into BSP fold and hoped that his joining would strengthen the party in the state. Capt. Vaid Raj, Thakur Daljit Singh, Rajinder Singh, Jodh Ram, Manjeet Singh, Thakur Balwant Singh, Raj Dev Bhagat, Amresh Kumar, Ghadi, Mulkh Raj, Mohd. Amin, Mohd. Aslam and Gh. Mohd. Batt also joined the BSP along with Wani.
