| Close associate, second in command to Azar Mehmood | | JeM top commander arrested, killed in militant’s gunfire | | JAMMU AUG-8 A Pakistani national and top Commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit who was arrested in Kishtwar town succumbed to his injuries while his other associates made good their escape taking advantage of darkness and thick forests. The slain militant was reportedly a close associate and second in command to the then JeM Chief Azar Mehmood and was active in the state for the last eight years. A Police spokesman said here today that a specific information was received from Doda Police regarding presence of a top commander of JeM outfit in Kishtwar town, upon which a search operation was meticulously planned and launched in which the said militant was zeroed in the house of one Muzaffer Hussain son of Ghulam Mohammed resident of Shahidi Mohalla Kishtwar. The spokesman said that during the search operation in the said house the holed up militant tried to fire upon the police party but was nabbed along with one Chinese pistol, two magazines, 10 live rounds besides some other incriminating material. His identify has been confirmed as Hussain Bhai son of Attah Ullah of Sheikhpur Pakistan, a top commander of JeM. On questioning, the arrested militant disclosed that his other associates along with arms and ammunition were presently hiding at a specific place in Kishtwar forests. He further disclosed that he came to Kishtwar to indulge in terrorist activities in large scale by way of grenade attacks, killing of some eminent personalities of the town and police/security forces on the eve of forthcoming Independence celebrations. The spokesman said that on his disclosures, search operation was immediately launched in Keshwan forests to nab his other associates and recover the dumped arms and ammunition. He said that while leading towards the hide out in the Keshwan forests, the Police party was fired upon by the associates of the arrested militant due to which the nabbed ultra Hussain Bhai got seriously injured. All out efforts were made to save his life by shifting him to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on way, the spokesman added. The Police also retaliated the fire in self- defence but other militants managed to make good their escape taking advantage of darkness and thick forests. The reports said the slain terrorist was active in the state since last eight years and was a close associate and second in command to the then JeM Chief Azar Mehmood who was released at Kandhar in exchange of hijacked passengers of Indian Airlines. The reports further revealed that the slain militant during his tenure had committed a number of militant activities at various places in Kashmir valley besides district Doda. The spokesman said that search operation in Keshwan area is still going on when the reports last came in .A case FIR NO 177/06 u/s 307/212 RPC 7,27.3/25 IAA stands registered in Police Station Kishtwar.
