Jammu June 3 In just three days of the current month over 2,000 pilgrims have enrolled their names for the annual pilgrimage to the Holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, commencing from June 30. The registration of the pilgrims started from first of the current month and over 2,000 devotees have been registered till now, officials said today. Of these, 1300 pilgrims have registered for undertaking their journey from Pahalgam route and rest via Baltal route. The State Government has fixed a quota of 2, 30,220 pilgrims for undertaking the yatra to the cave shrine this year as against 4, 99,720 last year, officials said. The registration counters have been set up at 87 branches of Jammu and Kashmir Bank across the country. In Jammu, 14,400 pilgrims will be registered. Of the counters, 16 are in Delhi, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, nine each in Maharashtra and Punjab, four each in West Bengal, Gujarat, Goa and Karnataka, three in Himachal Pradesh, two each in Madhya Pradesh and Kerala and one each in Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh and Uttaranchal. To ensure security to the yatris, X-ray machines would be used to check luggage’, the officials said adding all steps are being undertaken to provide various facilities to the pilgrims. BSNL will ensure telephone facility en route the yatra at Udhampur, Kud, Patnitop, Ramban, Banihal, apart from some main points along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The officials said a proposal has been sent to Amarnath Shrine Board for setting up pre-fabricated huts in Jammu, to be used as base camp for yatris.
