'Traffic from Srinagar to Jammu today | | | SRINAGAR, Feb 2 : Despite fresh snowfall on Highway today, the authorities allowed traffic to ply from Jammu to Srinagar. The Inspector General of Police Traffic Muneer Ahmad Khan said that more than 2600 vehicles crossed the Jawahar Tunnel till evening. He said that traffic will be allowed from Srinagar to Jammu on Tuesday after assessing weather and road conditions. "As per schedule the traffic was to ply from Srinagar to Jammu on Monday but due to fresh snowfall in the areas of Banihal and Jawhar Tunnel it was stopped early on Monday. But after the clearance of snow the traffic was allowed from Jammu to Srinagar. Around 2600 hundred vehicles crossed the Jawahar tunnel Monday," he said. On Monday the plains of Kashmir witness moderate snowfall, whereas in the higher reaches received heavy snowfall. The IGP Traffic said that all vehicles from Jammu to Srinagar were allowed to move adding that on Tuesday the traffic will move from Srinagar to Jammu. He, however, was quick to add that the passengers must confirm the status of the highway from the TC unit Srinagar before leaving their station. He also said that passengers traveling from Srinagar to Jammu should cross Pantha Chowk by 12 pm. "With forecast of snow for next 24 hours, the authorities will take precautions while allowing traffic on the highway," he added. |
