6/4/2007 12:36:55 AM

Srinagar, June 03
Since the concept of Lok Adalat in Judiciary, a lot of pending cases were settled amicably. This concept has also helped interested parties and claimants to save their time and money without prolonging these cases for years together.
In Kashmir valley, out of 478 cases, 280 have been amicably settled in various parts of the valley from May 2007 till date. The areas include Pulwama, Kupwara, Pampore, Srinagar, Bandipora, Sumbal and Anantnag. In Srinagar alone a compensation of about Rs. 54 lakh was awarded while in Anantnag district over Rs. 25 lakh have been awarded under Motor Accident Claim Act. These Lok Adalats are being conducted by District and Tehsil Legal Services committees headed by District and Sessions Judge of the concerned districts who are also functioning as Chairmen District Legal Services Authority.
In order to apprise the people about the aims and objectives of conducting Lok Adalats across the valley, a good number of awareness camps and seminars were also organized in different parts of the valley particularly in remote areas like Udoosa, Uri.
