| ‘Victims killed for money’ | | Police solves double murder case; Cell call details led to arrests | | Srinagar June 04 Srinagar police today claimed to have arrested four persons allegedly involved in a double murder case. The call details of the SIM card of one of the victim led to the arrest of the accused. The bodies of the victims Abdul Aziz Mir, son of Abdul Ahad Mir, resident of Muran Tangwari, Chandoosa, District Baramulla and Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, son of Ghulam Muhammad Chopan, resident of Quilmuqam, Bandipora were dumped at Kursoo Bund Rajbagh in two gunny bags on April 14. Official sources quoting SSP Srinagar said that the accused were arrested after police got the clues from the call details of the mobile phone of Abdul Aziz Mir. The arrestees, identified as Zahid Hussain Mir alias Bitta son of Ghulam Qadir Mir of Darpora, Bashir Ahmad Mir son of Muhammad Abdullah of Darpora Lolab, Nazir Ahmad Thoker son of Lassi Muhammad of Halpora, Wailoo and his brother Manzoor Ahmad Thoker hatched a conspiracy to dupe the unsuspecting victims by promising them a lucrative deal for Rs ten lakh. Giving details, sources said that the investigations revealed that Abdul Aziz Mir was running a small stationery shop at Boniyar, Uri and Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan had a failed business of poultry and used to move across the valley particularly in Kupwara area to collect the money which retailers owed to him. They said that during one of these business trips, Mushtaq met one of the accused Zahid Hussain Mir who lured him into a transaction, whereby he was promised one million Euro notes and a mysterious crystal of great value against just Rs ten lakh. He said that Mushtaq Ahmad in turn discussed the matter with his acquaintance, the other victim Abdul Aziz Mir after which they decided to explore this business transaction. The unsuspecting duo promised for paying Rs. 10.00 lakhs to the accused for the Euro currency and the crystal. On 14th April, 2007 both the victims were brought to Rajbagh by Zahid Hussain Mir, where other accused Nazir Ahmad Thoker, his brother Manzoor Ahmad Thoker and Bashir Ahmad Mir who were working as servants / labourers in a Joinery Mill at Rajbagh were present, sources added. The victims stayed there for the night and when the dinner was served to them, accused Nazir Ahmad Thoker drugged them with a medicine meant for epilepsy, which goes by the brand name GARDINAL. The accused strangulated the victims in a state of drowsiness caused due to the affect of the medicine. However, to their utter dismay, the accused could find only Rs 1800 from the belongings of Aziz Mir instead of Rs10 lakhs. After taking out the money, accused bundled the bodies in a Van bearing registration number JK02X/7901 and dumped them at Kursoo Bund, sources added. With the intention of wiping out the evidences, the accused destroyed and burnt all the belongings of the victims, which included the cell Phone of Aziz Mir having SIM No. 9419468541. However, it was with the help of the call details of his SIM number, that police was able to locate the Land line number on which Aziz had made last call and talked to the accused, before their meeting on April 14 last evening, sources added. The land line number which is installed with Modern Joinery Mills Rajbagh led to the arrest of the accused who during sustained interrogation confessed the crime after police picked them for questioning, last night, the sources said.
