| Smuggled timber seized, 1 arrested | | |
Srinagar June 04: Police today seized a tipper loaded with illicit deodar and arrested the driver at Kunzar on Srinagar- Gulmarg road in North Kashmir area of Tangmarg.
Acting on specific information, Kunzar Police seized the Tipper bearing Registration No JKF/731 at village Mangloora Kunzar containing illicit deodar hidden beneath a layer of stones, the reports said.
A police team led by SHO Kunzer intercepted the Tipper and recovered 211 pieces of green Deodars concealed under stones.
The Driver of the vehicle Hilal Ahmed Khambay son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din of Bhatpora was arrested and the vehicle seized.
Sources said that the smugglers were trying to take the advantage of visit of Health Minister to the area as the police was busy with the arrangements for the visit of the Minister. However, police foiled the attempt of the smugglers and seized the Tipper, before they could get away with the smuggled timber.
Army captain dies near LOC
Srinagar June 04- An army Captain posted with Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry died after he slipped and fell down in a Nallah in the frontier district of Kupwara. The deceased officer was leading a routine patrolling party when tragedy struck him.
Captain Gautam Sharma of 8 JAKLI camp Chowkibal was on routine patrolling at Awad-Gathur in Kupwara near LoC when he slipped and fell down in a Nallah, the sources said.
The Jawans accompanying him evacuated the Captain and took him to Army Hospital in conscious condition but the doctors declared him as brought dead.
Police has taken cognizance into the matter and initiated proceedings under Section 174 Cr PC to ascertain the cause of death.
