| HM area commander, among 2 militants killed | | |
Jammu, June 04
At least two militants, including an area commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed by 26 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Task Force during a joint combat operation in far off Gandoh area of hill bound Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, sources said here today.
The slain militants are believed to be associated with Hizbul Mujahideen.
Disclosing the details, a senior Police officer told News Agency of Kashmir that acting on a specific Intelligence in put, 26 Rashtriya and STF Gandoh launched a joint combat operation in upper reaches of Gandoh adjoining Tanatly area.
A group of three militants hiding inside the house of one Muhammad Ayub son of Rahmatullah Sheikh opened fire at the approaching troops, which was duly returned by the troops.
Sources said that following a fierce gun battle that lasted for about two hours, the troops gunned down two militants including an area commander. However, third militant managed to escape take the advantage of dense forests.
The slain militants were identified as Shah Din alias Sher Khan, area commander and Ghulam Mohammad alias Mehmood.
Two SLRs and two Magazines were recovered from the site of the encounter. The search operation to track down the third militant was going on till the last reports came in
