| Delay in construction of hospital building; Protesters clash with police | | |

Pattan (Baramulla)June 04 Trouble erupted in Pattan township after hundreds of people demonstrating against delay in execution of work on proposed Trauma Hospital went berserk and clashed with police who resort to cane charging and teargas shelling to chase them away. Police had to resort to lathe-charge and fire tear shells to disperse the mob which went berserk and blocked Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway for hours. People of Pattan and its adjoining areas took to streets and staged protest demonstrations against the undue delay in the construction of a trauma hospital in the area. The protestors were alleging that a land dispute between department and Industrial Training Institute was the main cause behind the delay as a result of which accident victims are forced to be shifted to Srinagar for treatment. Shouting slogans and government and concerned authorities stated a sit in on Srinagar- Baramulla National Highway. They blocked the vehicular movement forcing the police to intervene. Eyewitnesses told News Agency of Kashmir that when police personnel tried to disperse the mob, the protestors went berserk and clashed with the police. Police also resorted to cane charge and teargas shelling to disperse the mob. The ding dong battle between the two sides continued for about one hour. District administration officials later reached the spot to pacify the protesters. When the efforts to pacify the mob failed, police fired number of teargas shells forcing the protestors to disperse
