JAMMU, JUNE 05 To observe World Environment Day, Indian Council for Enviro-Legal Action (ICELA) J&K chapter organized a function here today. Addressing the gathering, MLC Mr Ashok Sharma (Convener ICELA) stressed for making conservation environment a mass movement as degradation of environment continues to be an alarming threat to the entire world. He asserted on initiating corrective measures and generating awareness among people about maintaining ecological balance, preserving it for sustainable development. On the occasion, Mr Sharma apprised that ICELA has drawn up the year long calendar of activities to create awareness among people about environment protection. These including organizing conferences, workshops, seminars, debates, quiz competitions, group discussions, alternative sessions, green marches and afforestration campaign on promotion of environment. The function was addressed by Mr M.L Koul, Chowdhary Vidya Sagar, Mr S.N Sharma, Mr B.B Gupta, Mr S.S Dua, Mr B.R Bandral, S Gurmeet Singh, Mr Satish Dutta, Mr M.L Gupta, Mr Om Prakash, Dr B.B Sharma and Balwant Ballu. The speakers on their part threw light on the necessity of controlling the pollution in this age of global warming and industries. They further said that this will no stone unturn to help ICELA in forming small committees in their respective areas for the eradication of pollution. A large number of ICELA functionaries, environment activists, administrative of NGOs and prominent citizens also participated in the function.
