| Jugal distributes cheques under horticulture technology mission | | | REASI, JUNE 05 Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Mr Jugal Kishore Sharma distributed cheques amounting Rs 1,68,300 among 5 beneficiaries of Reasi and Pouni areas for construction of water storage tank shallow wells in their orchards under Horticulture Technology Mission here at Reasi yesterday. Chief Horticulture Officer Udhampur, Mr J.L Raina apprised the Minister that horticulture department is making all out efforts to make rural people aware regarding latest varieties of fruit plants and advanced techniques in this field to raise their socio-economic standards. At present 4 horticulture zones are existing in Reasi district which included Reasi, Pouni, Arnas and Mahore and a number of schemes like technology mission, dry land area programme, development of tribal areas under SCA to TSP and SCP have been taken in hand for covering more areas under orchards and fruit plantation to create income sources for poor and downtrodden people. Likewise, in horticulture zones Reasi and Pouni, 177 hectares area was covered by planting 29,945 fruit plants of various species like mangoes, citrus, amla, apple and walnut thus covering 263 beneficiaries of the respective horticulture zones. Besides, 5 community tanks, 6 shallow wells/dug wells, 2 private nurseries, 1 farm handling unit were also provided to beneficiaries. Similarly, 2 awareness camps were organized and 3 progressive farmers were also sent outside the state to gain adequate knowledge about latest techniques in the field of horticulture.
